The Problems Associated With Hegemonic Masculinity Essay
THE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH HEGEMONIC MASCULINITY IN SOCIETY Introduction The discourse of hegemonic masculinity was recently explored to understand the power of men in society (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005). For centuries, men have taken a dominant gender role in society. This has resulted in the oppression of women and the subordination of men who do not confine to the ââ¬Ëmasculineââ¬â¢ norms (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005). This essay explores the discourse of hegemonic masculinity by explaining how it is reflected throughout society, and how it is connected to femininity and other masculinities. The aim is to criticise hegemonic masculinity by explaining the negative pressure it puts on both women and men. Masculinity Hegemony To understand the concrete basis of ââ¬Ëhegemonic masculinityââ¬â¢ more easily, the terms ââ¬Ëhegemonicââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëmasculinityââ¬â¢ will be deconstructed. ââ¬ËHegemonicââ¬â¢ represents what is dominant and most powerful in a societal or political context (Merriman-Webster, n.d.). ââ¬ËMasculinityââ¬â¢ is a socially constructed term that represents behaviour that is socially acceptable for men (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005; Lynch, 2009). Therefore, ââ¬Ëhegemonic masculinityââ¬â¢ refers to a set of norms and practices that are deemed as the dominant norm for men (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005; Lynch, 2009). Although the term is tied with men, hegemonic masculinity is not tied to the biological form of men. Alternatively, it is a gendered performance which means that its associatedShow MoreRelatedGender And Sexuality Using Cathexis, Analyse And Discuss A Newspaper Article By The Telegraph Essay1643 Words à |à 7 PagesIn recent years, masculinity h as been said to be in crisis. Understanding of electrical properties Free Essays
1. Introdution The corrosion of steel in concrete is an electro-chemical process which creates a current flow causing rebars to dissolve therefore it could be assess the probability of corrosion of steel by evaluating the electrical resistance of the concrete. The factor is measured in terms of resistivity and expressed in Ohm. We will write a custom essay sample on Understanding of electrical properties or any similar topic only for you Order Now The electric resistivity of concrete is one of the major parameters which are controlled the propagation of reinforcement corrosion. Electrical properties are of concern in some specific applications such as railway ties or in structure in which concrete is used for protection from stray currents. Electrical resistance of concrete also influences progress of corrosion of embedded steel. Electrical properties are also of interest in studies of the properties of both fresh and hardened concrete and effective of admixture on it. Admixture generally do not reduce the resistivity of concrete, however, special addition can be use to vary the resistivity. For instance the addition to concrete of finally divided bituminous material, with subsequent heat treatment increase the resistivity, especially under wet conditions. It is common knowledge that there is a strong relationship between resistivity and permeability of concrete because basically we are interest in measuring the (pore connectivity which is function of resistivity) therefore it is Useful to clarify the permeability and the porosity. 1.1 Permeabilty Permeability is the ease with liquid or gases can travel through concrete. This property is of interest in relation to the water-tightness of liquid retaining structure and to chemical attack. Although there is no prescribed test by BS and ASTM, the permeability of concrete can be measured by means of a simple laboratory test but the results are mainly comparative and also it can related to electric resistivity measuring. In such test the sides of a concrete specimen are sealed and water under pressure is applied to the top surface only. When steady state condition has been reached the quantity of water flowing through the concrete sample in given time is measured. The permeability is not a simple function of its porosity, but depends also on size, distribution, shape, tortuosity, and continuity of the pores. .(Neville, 1995) 1.2 Porosity Strictly speaking, strength of concrete is fundamentally a function of volume void in it. And it influence by entrapped air, capillary pores, gel pores and entrained air, if present. Fresh cement paste is a plastic network of particles of cement in water but, once the paste has set, itââ¬â¢s apparent or gross volume remains approximately constant. The paste consists of hydrates of the various cement compounds and of Ca(OH)2, and the gross volume available for all these products of hydration consists of the sum of the absolute volume of the dry cement and the volume of the mix water. In consequence of hydration, the mix water takes one of three forms: combined water, gel water and capillary water. 1.3 Electrical resistivity of concrete and its role in corrosion The electrical resistivity of concrete plays a major role in the steel rebar corrosion. If the concrete has low resistivity (high conductivity), there is a high chance for corrosion cells to develop due to high ions concentrations at the rebar level as opposed to low conductivity concrete. Corrosion of steel occurs because of electro-chemical action which is usually encountered when two dissimilar metal are in electro contact in presence of moisture and oxygen. However the same process takes place in steel alone because of the electrical-chemical potential on the surface which forms anode and cathodic regions. When chlorides are present and with low resistivity of concrete, more ions are present for this process to mobilize and spread corrosion. The corrosion that take place is manifested as the formation of corrosion, which when it is constituted has an expansive reaction. When the corrosion expands, the concrete is no longer able to withstand the cracks and tensile forces. Crack ing and spalling fetches more water, air, and the ions entering very quickly when cracks are exists, and thus propagate the corrosion. Conversely, with a concrete has low permeability there are less chloride ions present, therefore the reaction is much slower if it develops at all. This induces a sustainable structure caused by the reduction of corrosion in the reinforcement. The strongly alkaline nature of Ca (OH)2, of pH13 prevent the corrosion of the rebar by formation of a thin protective film of iron oxide on the metal surface, this protection is known as passivity. However, if the concrete is permeable to the extent that carbonation reaches the concrete in contact with steel or soluble chlorides can penetrate right up to the reinforcement, and water and oxygen are present, then corrosion of reinforcement will take place. The passive iron oxide layer is destroyed when pH falls bellow about 11 and carbonation lowers the pH to about 9. These reasons are why we are measuring the resistivity of concrete is crucial in concrete buildingcontaining steel rebar.Hammond (2010) 1.4 Test of Conductivity and Resistivity The 4-point electrical measurement testing method (Wenner linear array), figure (1.1) was used by geologists to measuring the resistivity of soil; it has since been revised for use in testing some materials such as concrete. This method is one of the most commonly technique is used for measuring concrete resistivity, by using AC current. This method contains a 4-poin probe device (as shown in fig1.1) used to measure the electrical resistivity of a concrete, a small AC current, passes between the outer contacts, the result is difference of potentialbetween the two inner contacts. The resistivity of concrete is calculating by equation (1.1). This technique for this purpose is relatively new, about 11 years ago has been used for measuring the resistivity of concrete. ? = 2a? Where, ? is resistivity, a is spacing between probes, V is Potential difference between inner contacts, I is current passed between outer contacts. Figure 1.1 wenner 4-point resistivity meter 1.5 The electrical properties of cement and concrete The electrical properties of concrete and cement are extremely variable and it depend on the size and shape of the particle, the mix proportions including the type and grading of aggregate, the age and curing conditions and the moisture content as determined by water/cement ratio and subsequent drying or moisture absorption. The most important electric properties of concretes and cements are their resistance to both direct and alternating current and their dielectric strength. The resistance can be of two form, volume resistance and surface resistance and it is through a failure to separate those two that much of the early work on the subject exhibits such inconsistence. (Orchard,) It is difficult to generalise on the resistance of cement paste and concrete as it is so variable and depends on many factors. As very rough guide, however, the volume resistivity of a freshly made cement paste may be 1/5000 of a megohm centimetre and may rise to 1/20 of a megohm centimetre after storing in air for long time. Managing Research Efficient Developing
Question: Discuss about the Managing Research for Efficient Developing. Answer: Introduction Imparting trainings to employees has now become an integral part of the business process of every organization. In the present business environment where competition is very high, it is imperative that the employees are able to perform to their highest capacity in an effective manner. In order to expand and increase employee efficiencies, organizations are actively training them in order to built core competencies. The training procedure inside the organization helps in developing the skills of the employees as well as their capabilities (Arneson, Rothwell and Naughton 2013). The training process also helps in molding the thinking process of the employees working in the organization. Therefore, the intent of the organization is to increase their effectiveness and growth by enhancing the performance of their employees through effective training programs. This particular study revolves around the problems that are faced by Atlassian, an Australian software company in the forefront of training their employees. The problem that has been identified in the organization is that it lacks efficient trainers who will be responsible to impart training to its employees and help them to perform their jobs in a much efficient manner. This study is directed towards bringing out the effects of such lack of efficient trainers in the company. It will also discuss about the problems that are arising and drawing back the companys performance due to the identified problem. Along with it, the study also will discuss about the key issues that affect the production of the organization, because there is a lack of trainers are discussed as well in this particular research proposal. This research will help in describing the circumstances that surrounds the research problem, which is related to the problem faced by the people in the organization, because there is an improper training facility that is being provided to the people. Background of the Research Problem Atlassian is a company that is efficient in developing software program for its customer (Atlassian. 2016). As one of the biggest companies providing effective software solutions to its clients, it has to employ a huge workforce. Considerable amounts of employees are engaged in research and development. A detailed analysis of customer demand is undertaken and products are developed by using the technological developments in the required area. The entire workforce is divided according to the different business functions of the organization. The organization has different departments such as software, IT, Marketing, Finance, Operations, HR etc. All these departments require people with different qualification and capabilities. As various types of expertise is involves, their periodic training and development is also necessary in order to keep pace with the changes in the business environment. However, recently it has been noticed that the company is lacking its capacity to provide effe ctive training to its employees. As a result, the entire business process is being hampered along with its productivity (Yenireddy 2013). Proper training could not be provided to the employees working in the organization because the organization lacks eligible trainers at the present moment. The organizational objectives of increasing revenue and productivity are not being accomplished due to the ineffectiveness of its workforce. It has been seen that the companys software and IT department is sometimes unable to provide effective sokutions to customer problems. After sales services have been hampered in a significant manner. On the other hand, research and development has not augmented much as desired by the management of the company. The overall organizational effectiveness and existence have stated to erode due to this acute problem of the work force. It has also been noticed that old and experienced employees are sometimes not able to cope up and implement the latest technological developments in the field of software and IT. Here is where the necessity of training is felt the most. This study is directed towards, finding out the problems that arise due to unavailability of effective training sessions by efficient trainers. The study will also try to bring out the wa ys in which the company will be able to overcome these drawbacks and will be able to develop reasonable solutions. Thus, helping the company to recover from this present state is also an important objective of this research work. In essence, the management of the company needs to decide upon the following important points and questions: What are the present requirements of the employees? What are the present technological changes that affect the organizations research and development process? What are the factors that are hindering effective after sales services of the organization? The nature and extent of the trainings that is required to be held by the organization. What are the expertises that the company will be looking for in the training staff? To what proportion will training programs will increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the employees? What are the nature and type of costs that will be involved in providing the required trainings to its employees? To what extent can the company expend on training programs? How such training programs will affect the organizations revenue generation and profits? The above mentioned elements are very important and the company has to take a proper decision in this regard. Problem Definition This research intends to address the particular type of problem identified in the organization. The company is well established and has its own procedures to implement new strategies and policies in a precise manner. This study will try to find out the manner in which such implementation of policies and strategies are done within the organization. Research will also be done to critically evaluate such procedures and try to bring out the changes that are required in the business process. This may involve an entire business re-engineering of the training and development activities of the company. The researcher should try to question the management with the help of a survey questionnaire the problems they are facing due to the lack of proper training and development program and due to the lack of eligible trainer that is there in the organization (Sung and Choi 2014). The research would also take into account the experience of the employees working in the organization with the help of the face-to-face interview and survey questionnaire. The information that will be gathered from the employees will help in finding out the problems the employees are facing because of the lack of an eligible trainer in the organization. The research question that is being raised by the particular research includes the following: What are the factors that the company needs to consider within the organization with respect to its present training and development cell? What are the drawbacks in the present training programs and schedules? What are the qualities that are required to be evaluated in a trainer? Where can prospective trainers are found? What are the nature and extent of the requirements of the employees? How the implementation of the management decision would take place in the organization? To what extent the strategy of implementing effective and highly qualified trainer is effective for the growth and the development of the organization? How new trainers and training programs will enhance productivity and efficiency of the organization? The research proposal put forwards certain objectives that are being identified in the particular research: Enabling the employees to accomplish tem as well as their job roles in the organization, the old or the existing employees working in the organization it includes enabling the employees to enhance the capabilities of the new employees working in the organization. The next research objective deals with the productivity of the organization. It is the objective of the research to find out whether the newly hired qualified trainer will help in enhancing the productivity of the organization or not. To find out effective training processes that will enable its employees to perform better and increase their efficiency. The research objective deals with the improvement of the performance of the employee, which include: The new employees who are being hire by the organization and The old or the existing employees of the organization The objective of the particular research will ensure that the implementation of the new and the qualified trainers in the organization, would actually help in increasing not only the productivity of the organization but it will help in increasing the profitability of the organization at the same time. Literature Review The present literature review does not deal only with the problem of Atlassian, and the problem that it faces because of the lack of eligible trainers that are there in the organization. The present literature review is about the need of training and development program in the organization (Sung and Choi 2014). The research also tries to find out how the training and the development program has actually helped the organization to increase their profitability at the same time. The literature review not only deals with the gap that is there because there is a lack of training procedure in the organization. The literature review deals with the overall training process and this overall training process could actually help in improving the performance of the organization. The Need to Provide Training to People Working in the Organization Training plays a very important part in enhancing the performance of both the organization and employees who are working in the organization. The training and the development program could be helpful for the people working in the organization based on the four grounds. The four grounds are the following grounds: The employees, who are new to the organization, are being provided with a specific training. The aim of providing the specific training to the new employees help the organization to make the employees understand about the protocol of the company and at the same time it helps the new employees to know about both the mission and the vision of the company. The training and the development programs are designed for the existing employees as well. The training and the development programs help the existing employees to improve their capabilities as well as the skills. The organization could implement many changes within its structure and within the way; the work is being carried out. The training and the development program actually helps the employee to cope up with the changes within the organization and then carry out their work at the same time. Training is important for the promotion and the growth of the employees and thus if proper training is being provided to the employees then it will become easy for the employees to carry out their work and at the same time it motivates the employees to share responsibilities with other employees as well. The Different and the Varied Methods of Training The On Job Training Method The on-job training method or a way is a particular way through which training is being provided to the employees working in a particular organization. The particular training method or way could be helpful in more than one way. Firstly, the particular training method provides trainings to the employees who are both in proficient and at the same time semi-proficient. Another most important part of this particular training procedure is that this particular training procedure is a cost effective training procedure (Salas, Tannenbaum, Kraiger and Smith-Jentsch 2012). Therefore, most of the organization could actually avail this training procedure. In this particular procedure, the employees are placed in a particular scenario and within that scenario; they are being provided the training by the organization. In this particular procedure of learning, the process of learning takes place through the method of doing or carrying out certain activities. The things like job rotation, promotion and even coaching could be seen as those instances that will help in providing the training to the employees working in and for the organization. The Off Training Method The off job training method is being aim to provide training to those employees who are new to the organization and thus, proper training procedure are needed to transfer knowledge. The particular types of trainings are good for those employees who are not only new but also at the same time, to those who need the trainings within a very short period (Ford 2014). The particular type of training program actually, helps in fulfilling this particular purpose but then the particular procedure is very costly for the people working in the organization. The employees in the off job training are not trained in the actual working condition area but rather they are trained in a duplicate area, and the duplicate is the duplicate of the actual working condition. Moreover, the employees are trained separately in this particular training procedure, thus the training procedure is also known as the vestibule procedure at the same time. The Benefits of the Training that is being provided The training and the development program is helpful to the organization in more than one way. The training and development program is beneficial for the organization because of the following reasons: Learning culture is important for both the growth as well as the development of the organization (Benton, Benton and Benton 2014). Therefore, it is important to implement the training and the development program within the organization because that will help in developing a learning culture within the organization. Thus, changes could be easily introduced in the organization because a learning culture within the organization welcomes the changes within the organization. Training ensures that there is minimal wastage of time within the organization, and this training could because if there were well-trained employees in the organization then the employee would actually require less supervision (Chopra 2012). Since, the well-trained employees receive less supervision therefore, the time is saved and that is utilized in production, which helps in increasing the profit earned by the organization. The training programs therefore, helps in increasing the productivity of the company and not only the productivity of the company is increased but at the same time the errors or the mistake, that used to occur in the organization would decrease at the same time (Council 2012). Since, the employees will be more trained therefore, the rate of committing mistakes will decrease thus it again would contribute to the productivity of the organization. Research Design Methodology Research Design The particular research would carry out the research process with the help of the descriptive research design. The descriptive research design helps the researchers because it provides the researchers with those results that are accurate (Taylor, Bogdan, and DeVault 2015). Thus, the process of analyzing the things become simpler and at the same time the particular research method takes into account not only the qualitative data collection method but at the same time the quantitative data collection method at the same time. The Purpose of this particular Research and the Type of Investigation The research design can be of three types, which include the exploratory research design, the, descriptive research design and the causal research design (Merriam and Tisdell 2015). The exploratory research design requires full and the detailed information about the research problem and only then, that particular research design could be implemented in the process (Matthews and Ross 2014). Since, the particular research does not have distinct or detail information about the research problem therefore, implementing this research process would not be a sufficient thing in this case (Robson and McCartan 2016). The causal research design, on the other hand depends on the cause and the effect design of the variables (Noe and Tews 2012). The particular research is also termed as the hypothesis testing at the same time. The variables of the cause and the effect of the training procedure in the organization, is not something that is feasible, therefore, this particular method or design of research is also not implemented in this case. The descriptive research design is such a research design that is not experimental in nature but this; particular research design helps the researcher, because it provides the researcher with accurate data that helps in the data analysis process. The descriptive research design includes unique variables (Yin 2013). The descriptive design is different from the other kinds of research design because in this particular design method there is no need of the multiple variables for the data analysis process. The data analysis could be carried out with the help of the single variables at the same time. Time Horizon of the Particular Research The particular research will include the cross-sectional study of the management working in Atlassian. The cross section study is based on the observation of a group of people or the focus group on a particular subject but there will be a difference in the time at the same time. The particular research would observe and study the workers of the Atlassian and will try to find out the ways through which, the lack of an eligible trainer is effecting the growth and the development of the organization (Pickard 2012). Unit of Analysis of the Research The unit of analysis consists of the most important thing in a research, because the unit of analysis includes, those who are being studied in this particular research (Mackey and Gass 2015). The unit of analysis of this research includes the individuals, such as the people working in the management of the organization and is ready to implement the strategy of recruiting highly qualified trainers in the organization. It includes the employees as well, who are mostly affected by the particular training procedure. Research Methodology The Chosen Instrument for the Research The particular research is using the rating scale, such as the Likert scale, for conducting this particular research (Maxwell 2012). Apart from the Likert scale, the research also uses the interview schedule or the guides and along with it, the research uses the questionnaire as well, to carry out the interview and the surveys. Along with it, the tally sheets are used as well for conducting this particular research (Reigeluth 2013). Questionnaire Design of the particular Research The particular research, use the survey questionnaire to carry out the particular research. The research questionnaire, use the Likert scale as the rating scale that is being used to find out what both the management and the employees feel regarding the training that is being provided in the organization and regarding the absence of the eligible trainer in the organization (Kratochwill, and Levin 2015). In the Likert scale, the numbers stands for: 5= Truly Agree 4= Agree to Some Extent 3= Not Sure 2= Disagree to some Extent 1= Disagree to a Great Extend Data Collection Qualitative Data Collection Method The qualitative data collection method includes the interviewing of the employees as well as the management through the help of the series of questionnaires that are there The qualitative data analysis includes observing the focus groups that is the people working in the company and the management (Creswell 2012). The Quantitative Data Collection The quantitative data collection method includes surveying at least 50 employees working in the organization. The employees who will be included in the survey include both the new employees as well as the old employees working in the organization. Data Analysis Qualitative Analysis: The process of the documentation could be used in this particular research to analysis the data that has been collected (Snmez 2013). Quantitative Analysis: In case of the quantitative data the statistical method such as SPSS could be used to carry on with the analysis. Limitation of the Research There s certain limitation that has been recognized in this particular research and here are the following limitations: The particular research used only a limited number of people in the organization. The small population, which is being used in the organization, is not enough to have a clear view of the problem that is being faced by the people working there (Kelly, Lesh and Baek 2014). The research does not include the viewpoints of the trainers and thus the facts that they have to say in their defense are not mentioned in the research. Project Budget and Timeline Budget The particular research requires certain funds or budget because the books that are required for the literature review, needs money and could not be obtain at free of cost. The same thing is true even for the data collection and data analysis; certain money is required to carry out the whole process. Thus, a budget is required here as well. The Area Budget Required Literature Review (Books, Online and Academic Journal) $1000 Qualitative Analysis $500 Quantitative Analysis (Survey Questionnaire) $800 Data Analysis (Tools, such as the SPSS tool) $400 Time Task to be Carried Out The Starting Date The Finish Date Designing the questionnaire 13th July 2016 1st August 2016 Pretesting the Questionnaire 1st August 2016 25th August 2016 Printing of the questionnaire as well as the return of the envelope 26th August 2016 13th September 2016 Distributing the questionnaire among the employees and the management 14th September 2016 7th October 2016 Interviewing the employees and data analysis 8th October 2016 12th December 2016 Finishing the report 13th December 2016 7th January 2017 Conclusion The particular research would help in finding out whether Atlassian requires new and qualified trainer for their organization or not. The particular research would be helpful not only for the employees working in Atlassian but it would also be helpful for those organizations that are going through the same kind of situation. The particular research would actually helpful for the future researcher as well. References Arneson, J., Rothwell, W. and Naughton, J., 2013. Paired Passages essay Essays - Film, Disneys Pocahontas,
Paired Passages essay In each passage, the author describes John Smith's capture by Powhatan. The descriptions in both, "The (Untrue) story of John Smith and Pocahontas," and "The General History of Virginia," are similar and different in many ways, and portrays Smiths capture in different ways. The author of "The (Untrue) Story of John Smith and Pocahontas" portrays Smith's capture by saying, "They arrested Smith on the Voyage to America, and several months after they arrived at Jamestown." That shows how they captured John Smith. Also, in the text it says, "Whatever the case if Pocahontas was watching she saw him disappear into powhatans longhouse." That shows what happened to Smith after he was captured, according to the untrue story. John Smith has a different perspective on how he was captured. In the preview of the text it says, "In 1607 during an expedition to find food for the colony, Smith was captured by a group of Powhatan Indians." That shows his perspective on how he was captured. It also says, "Smith has been held captive for several weeks." That shows how long he was held captive. There are some similarities and differences in the ways that the authors interpret the captures. Some of the similarities in the interpretations is that they both show that John Smith was held captive for a few weeks/months. Some of the differences is that, in the untrue story, they say that Smith they arrested Smith while on a voyage to America. John Smith says in his excerpt that he was trying to find food for his colony. Those were some ways that the interpretations are alike and different. In conclusion, both "The (Untrue) Story of John Smith and Pocahontas," and "The General History of Virginia," both authors portray the capture in similar and different ways. One author says that they arrested him and the other says he was innocently captured.

How to Rename or Define
How to Rename or Define How to Rename or Define How to Rename or Define By Mark Nichol When constructing a sentence in which a term or concept is described in other words or a meaning is given, use these guidelines for punctuating the parenthesis. When using namely, which establishes that one or more examples or names of a thing will be provided, or employing phrases that serve a similar purpose (such as ââ¬Å"for exampleâ⬠and ââ¬Å"that isâ⬠), always follow the word or phrase with a comma. The punctuation preceding the word or phrase depends on the structure of the sentence. (The abbreviations e.g. and i.e., representing Latin phrases equivalent to ââ¬Å"for exampleâ⬠and ââ¬Å"that is,â⬠respectively, are discouraged in formal prose in favor of the English phrases except in parentheses or in notes; use the same surrounding punctuation for the abbreviations as for the phrases.) When what follows is a simple phrase and not an independent clause, precede namely and the like with an em dash to signal that one is transitioning from discussing something to providing examples about it: ââ¬Å"Constitutional law defines the interrelationships between various branches of government within a state namely, the executive, the legislative, and the judicial.â⬠Alternatively, enclose the additional information in parentheses: ââ¬Å"I enjoy reading nineteenth-century historical adventure novels (for example, those by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sir Walter Scott, and Robert Louis Stevenson).â⬠If the word or phrase, and what follows, is an independent clause, start a new sentence or precede the word or phrase with a semicolon: ââ¬Å"I agree with what you said. That is, I agree if I understand what you meant.â⬠ââ¬Å"I agree with what you said; that is, I agree if I understand what you meant.â⬠An em dash may be used in place of the period or semicolon to signal an abrupt addition to the preceding statement, or use parentheses to represent an afterthought. Another option, in place of using namely, is to employ a colon, which among other purposes is used to indicate an expansion or explanation: ââ¬Å"Constitutional law defines the interrelationships between various branches of government within a state: the executive, the legislative, and the judicial.â⬠ââ¬Å"For example,â⬠ââ¬Å"that is,â⬠and similar phrases can be used following a colon or an em dash: ââ¬Å"I enjoy reading nineteenth-century historical adventure novelists: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sir Walter Scott, and Robert Louis Stevenson, for example.â⬠ââ¬Å"I enjoy reading nineteenth-century historical adventure novelists that is, writers like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sir Walter Scott, and Robert Louis Stevenson.â⬠(Either phrase can precede or follow the examples, but ââ¬Å"for exampleâ⬠usually comes at the end and ââ¬Å"that isâ⬠usually appears at the beginning.) Use of ââ¬Å"in other wordsâ⬠as a transitional phrase follows these patterns (the particular method of punctuation depends on the context specific to a sentence): ââ¬Å"We have insufficient funds to continue operating in other words, we are broke.â⬠ââ¬Å"We have insufficient funds to continue operating. In other words, we are broke.â⬠ââ¬Å"We have insufficient funds to continue operating; in other words, we are broke.â⬠ââ¬Å"We have insufficient funds to continue operating. (In other words, we are broke.)â⬠One similar point about punctuation is how to provide a gloss, or a brief definition, as Iââ¬â¢ve done in this sentence for the word gloss: Set the gloss off from the term with a pair of commas. Alternatively, enclose the gloss in parentheses, especially if the gloss is a translation: The word is chico (ââ¬Å"boy,â⬠ââ¬Å"child,â⬠or ââ¬Å"smallâ⬠). Air Quality
Air Quality Essay Air Quality Dispersion Today, the air quality aspect of ARL research is by far the dominant theme, but distinctions among the themes remain somewhat vague. For example, the models developed for emergency response purposes are among those used for air quality prediction. The Air Quality and Dispersion theme is one of the strongest ties that binds ARLs components together. ARL is not heavily involved in the pure science of the business. Instead, ARL focusses on the need to assemble integrated understanding and models from all available sources, to develop the capability to predict changes in air quality that will follow changes in emissions, or that will occur as a result of meteorological factors. ARL air quality research extends to studies of atmospheric deposition essentially the coupling between the atmospheric pollutant environment and the surface below. ARL now operates the only research-grade deposition monitoring network in the nation: AIRMoN (the Atmospheric Integrated Resear ch Monitoring Network). Programs. Air Quality and Deposition Modeling Air quality models have demanded this kind of coupling for a considerable time. As a result, there are now well-developed descriptions of PBL processes in use in air quality models. ARL research products are now receiving a wider audience, within the mesoscale modeling community at large. It is recognized that modern models are invariably data assimilative, and that modern monitoring programs require coupled modeling activities for data interpretation. Model development programs are supported by a vigorous physical modeling program, located at Research Triangle Park, NC. ARL operates one of the nations major fluid modeling facilities, at which studies are conducted on the effects of mountains, buildings, and other surface obstacles on atmospheric flow patterns. Integrated Monitoring, and AIRMoN The Atmospheric Integrated Research Monitoring Network is an atmospheric component to the overall national integrated monitoring initiative that is currentl y evolving. AIRMoN has two principal components: wet and dry deposition. ARL presently focuses its research attention on ? the measurement of precipitation chemistry with fine time resolution (AIRMoN-wet), ? the development of systems for measuring deposition, both wet and dry, ? the measurement of dry deposition using micrometeorological methods (AIRMoN-dry), ? the development of techniques for assessing air-surface exchange in areas (such as specific watersheds) where intensive studies are not feasible, and ? the extension of local measurements and knowledge to describe areal average exchange in numerical models. Aerosols and visibility ARL specializes in the geochemical cycling of atmospheric aerosols, particularly the particulate component. Research groups in ARL concentrate on (a) the injection of dust and soil particles into the atmosphere, (b) the transport of particles through the atmosphere, the production of aerosol particles in the air by chemical reactions, (d) the scavenging of airborne particles by clouds and their subsequent deposition in precipitation, (e) the dry deposition of particles as air moves across different landscapes, and (f) the assembly of numerical models. Specific topics include ? the injection of dust and soil particles into the atmosphere, ? the long-range transport of particles through the atmosphere, ? the production of aerosol particles in the air by chemical reactions, ? the scavenging of airborne particles by clouds and their subsequent deposition in precipitation, and ? the dry deposition of particles as air moves across different landscapes. International ARL serves as the leader of the U.S. multi-agency effort to impose formalized and uniform quality assurance programs on the many national air quality and deposition monitoring networks that are operational around the globe. How are ozone concentrations calculated with Hysplit? Ozone is then calculated from the photostationary state equation. The IER solution is used in the operational Hysplit ozone calculation. The pollutant particles are tracked and air concentrations for each species are computed each advection time step following the usual lagrangian approaches. At the conclusion of the advection step the GRS differential equations are solved on the concentration grid (Eulerian solution), and the change of concentration of each pollutant species is applied to the pollutant mass on the particles that contributed concentration to each grid cell. -Eulerian chemistry solution on the grid dc/dt = {Equations 1 7} 1) ROC + hv -* RP + ROC Nitric oxide-ozone titration reacti on 5) RP + RP -* RP k5 = 10200 Sink for nitrogen dioxide to stable gaseous nitrates

Winona LaDuke and Climate Change Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Winona LaDuke and Climate Change - Essay Example LaDuke seeks to increase the first nationââ¬â¢s resilience in environmental justice. For example, in speaking out concerning climate change, the author seeks to promote the use of alternative sources of energy. The author identifies climate change as a human rights issue that has greatly affected the Pacific Islanders, Indigenous people, and Local-Land based communities due to their dependency on activities such as hunting, fishing and gathering rights. The dependency on fossil fuels has also resulted in health issues such as respiratory and infectious disease. The author also observes that the economic and cultural displacement in the society has also been in an attempt to access fossil energy. There are native solutions that greatly aid the countryââ¬â¢s environmental sustainability. LaDuke observes that wind energy can easily be utilized in twenty-three Indian Reservations in the Great Plains. LaDuke states that these regions can produce 300 gigawatts of power that is enough to meet the countryââ¬â¢s needs. Solar energy is another alternative that can be utilized in The Great Lakes, North West and North Eastern regions including other tribal lands in the South Western. The native solutions are beneficial as they promote local economies as they provide income, jobs and tax revenues. The native solutions respect the traditions and the responsibilities of the Aboriginal communities in protecting the sacredness of the earth. The issue of environmental justice is an important issue affecting societies on a global scale.

RBA Decrease Rates for Christmas Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
RBA Decrease Rates for Christmas - Essay Example The economy is made up of various components and each and every single component affects the economy differently. In the explanation and analysis of the ââ¬Å"RBA Decrease Rates for Christmasâ⬠article, a number of economic components are considered. These components aid intensive analysis of the article based on the context of actions taken by the RBA, Central Bank and the economic responses experienced in the financial markets and the economy at large. Aggregate demand and supply plays a central role in the economy, determining the overall level of performance of the economy1. Unemployment and inflation are key determinants of the direction that the economy takes and they both affect decisions made within the economic context. Monetary policy on the other hand is undertaken by the Central Bank as a measure to manage the economy alongside fiscal policy. The two measures are crucial in managing currency trends that further determine the level of inflation in the economy. Analys is in the Context of Economic Concepts/Theories Aggregate demand and Supply The economic model is made of different sectors and industries. Each constituent sector or industry contributes towards the overall welfare of the economy. Aggregate demand and supply denotes the entire economyââ¬â¢s output. ... Aggregate demand brings on board total spending in the economy. The different levels of spending in the economy are made up of consumption, investment, government purchases and net exports3. The aggregate supply curve comprises of an inflationary and a non-inflationary region. This factor provides a basic principle for the required analysis in this paper. Different factors affect both aggregate demand and aggregate supply. However the interaction of the two is critical to any given analysis in the economy. National output can be either nominal or real, depending on the price base used in their computation. Where more stable prices are used to compute national output given an identified base year, real national output is computed. On the other hand, where current prices are used, nominal national output is computed. Real GDP is obtained when the aggregate demand and aggregate supply interact. On the same point, the resultant equilibrium results in the national inflation rate4. The fig ure below shows an aggregate demand-aggregate supply model: A number of factors affect both aggregate demand and aggregate supply. Only the factors that are important to this analysis will be highlighted. Income, wealth, credit availability, government demand, investment and future expectations on inflation, income, wealth and interest rates causes the aggregate demand curve to shift to the right upon an increase in any of them. An increase in some other factors causes the aggregate demand curve to shift leftwards. These are: interest rates and taxation. On the other hand, a rightward shift is observed on the aggregate supply when prior investment,

Eddies action Essay Example for Free
Eddies action Essay Beatrice is responsible for eddies death because she didnt act soon enough. If Beatrice acted sooner Eddie could have calmed and a lot of this wouldnt have happened. Marco wants revenge on Eddie because Eddie contacted immigration to inform them of him and Rodolpho. This angers Marco and makes him want to seek revenge. He believes that Eddies action was the start of a downward spiral leading to the unfortunate fate of his children. He confirms this in the quote, That one! He killed my children. Marco could be blamed for eddies death because of his personal vendetta. He went to Eddies house fuelled with aggression, shouting, Eddie Carbone outside of Eddies house demanding that Eddie steps outside to settle this. If you were trying to clear Marco of international murder you could argue that Eddie pulled a knife out. Another reason you can state is that Marco was using self defence to prevent getting hurt these reasons is what can clear Marco from international murder. Marco kills Eddie at the end of the final scene. Eddie lunges at Marco and they begin to fight. Eddie pulls out a knife and attempts to stab Marco. Eddie tries to stab Marco but Marco twists the knife and stabs Eddie instead, it results in Eddie dying. There is evidence in this which tells us that Marco is responsible for eddies death such as when Marco says, in my country, he would have been dead by now. He would not live this long this gives me more knowledge which tells me that Marco is responsible for eddies death. This quote tells us that Marco is a man of vendetta, this is the way he settles his problems. Eddie is a man of honour dying like this suits him because he has fought for what he believes in. I have come to the conclusion that Eddie is fully responsible for his death. I believe he bring everything on himself such as calling immigration because he couldnt control his jealousy which resulted into angering Marco, this leaded into a vendetta. By settling this feud Marco wants to fight, as Eddie comes out he brings a knife; if he had not brought that knife the damage would have been so much less. The writer directing the final words towards Alfieri is aimed at touching each member of the audience, each feeling mixed emotions throughout the play however, whoever is to blame becomes irrelevant and you can not help but morn and feel a sense of loss over I life that has been taken. The writer points out that for all Eddies wrong doings he was unable to control his actions due to his belief in what he felt was right. I think a view from a bridge is a tragedy because throughout the play Eddie goes through so much. He loses respect from others, he drifts apart from his niece on the strengths of his personal beliefs and lack of control over his jealousy and consequently loses his own life. The line in which sums up the main point for is when Alfieri says sometimes we settle for half and I like it better.

Ecuadorââ¬â¢s Economy: Oil and Agriculture, Overdependence Essay -- Ecuado
Ecuadorââ¬â¢s Economy: Oil and Agriculture, Overdependence One of the main features of Ecuador ââ¬â¢s economy is its dependence on only a few key export commodities, most importantly oil and bananas. Oil accounts for approximately 40% of the export economy, while bananas are responsible for about 17%, and Ecuador is the largest producer of bananas in the world. The rest of the economy is mostly based on less important agricultural exports, such as shrimp and flowers, which account for 6% and 4% of exports respectively. Ecuador is almost completely reliant on the success of these few industries, particularly oil, and so has suffered through a cycle of boom and bust economies over the past several decades, since oil was discovered in the 1970s. Furthermore, in the last six years Ecuador has had four different presidents, and the national office has been dogged by scandals and corruption. This environment has made it very difficult for the government to accomplish the reforms that are necessary to stabilize the nation when the economy faces a serious downturn. There are two main factors that have been very significant in determining the health of Ecuador ââ¬â¢s economy at any given time, and those are oil prices and extreme weather events. Ecuadorââ¬â¢s major agricultural exports are, of course, very susceptible to damage from harmful weather; while the oil industry, until quite recently, has been dependent on only one major pipeline for transport, the Sistema Oleoducto Trans-Ecuatoriano (SOTE). In 1987 a large earthquake rocked Ecuador, destroying a large stretch of the SOTE pipeline, which, when combined with a decline in world oil prices, nearly resulted in a complete collapse of the economy. Another devastating weather event, which also... ...gale, Marcelo, and Lopez-Caliz, Jose (ed.), Ecuador: An Economic and Social Agenda in the New Millennium, (The World Bank: Washington DC, 2003). ââ¬Å" Ecuador Country Analysis Brief,â⬠Energy Information Administration, http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/ecuador.html, vie we d on 18 November 2004. ââ¬Å" Ecuador Business > Economic Overview & History,â⬠Ecuador Explorer, http://www.ecuadorexplorer.com/html/business_in_ecuador.html, vie we d on 18 November 2004. ââ¬Å" Ecuador,â⬠InfoPlease, http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0107479, vie we d on 8 December 2004. ââ¬Å"Foreign Trade,â⬠Ecuador Exports, http://www.ecuadorexports.com/foreign.htm, vie we d on 8 December 2004. ââ¬Å" Ecuador Country Case Study: Impacts and Responses to the 1997-98 El Nià ±o Event,â⬠Institute for the Study of Society and Environment, http://www.esig.ucar.edu/un/ecuador.html, vie we d on 2 November 2004.

Problem of Teenage Pregnancy
Over the past few years teenage pregnancy rates have grown substantially. More than one million teenagers will become pregnant this year in Canada, and the number is growing. Many socioeconomic factors influence pregnancy rates, such as; different races, different religions, financial status, education and family background. Another influence is the sexual education children are receiving or not receiving at school and at home. While the problem of teenage pregnancy is acknowledged, solutions are coming slowly. Some parents feel that pregnancy is a result of the lack of sex education courses taught in schools, while others feel that these courses end up encouraging teenagers to become sexually active. Studies have been done to find out just how important sex education courses are, and what effect they have on pregnancy rates. ââ¬Å"The amount of sex education they receive is not as important a factor, according to a new study. â⬠(Fewer girls get pregnant when involved in community, E8) Toronto Sun, 1998) Other sources say: Sex education courses, advocated to prevent teen pregnancy but denounced as encouraged sexual interest, appear to have little or no effect on teensâ⬠sexual activity. Such courses also have no noticeable effect on contraceptive use and pregnancy rates among teenagers. It was found that while students do learn about sex and contraception, they do not appear to alter their behavior. â⬠(Okie, 1996) The courses that are offered in schools have proven not to have any influence on the teenage pregnancy rates. The reason for this may be that the courses are just not being taught effectively or are targeting the wrong age group: ââ¬ËTwo major goals of the school sex education programs are to reduce the incidence of unwarranted pregnancy as well as the rates of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. However, to be effective, programs must begin early. If we wait until an age when most adolescents are sexually active, we might have to combat an acquired behavioral pattern of ineffective STD/pregnancy prevention behavior. Some statistics found that in the 1984 survey of school superintendents found that children do not all seem to know what we expect them to know. It was found that 50% of schools offered a family life education program. Whereas 87% of urban districts had a program, only 25% of rural districts had a program. Canadian school children ages 9, 12 and 15 showed a considerable lack of sexual education. Only 35% of grade 7 students knew that is was possible for a girl to get pregnant between the ages of 12 and 15. Most thought pregnancy could not occur until after age 16. (Herold, 1997) Through many studies it has been proven that sex education in schools has little or no noticeable effect on the teen pregnancy rate. The conclusion has been made that the rate of teenage pregnancy is rising, but there is no solution in sight. Many thought having sex education in the schools would reduce the rate but statistics have suggested that they will not. There have been suggestions of other ways of reducing the high rates. ââ¬Å"Sexual counseling and access to preventionâ⬠(Beard, 1992) could be tried. In the mid-1970â⬠³s the ââ¬Å"Ontario government started to provide universal access to publicly funded family planning and sex education. â⬠(Beard, 1992) If these were used in combination with school sexuality education it has been predicted that a decrease in the pregnancy rate would occur. ââ¬Å"Changes in the social climateâ⬠, (MacDonald, 1996), which teenagers have been exposed to have been linked with rising adolescent pregnancy rates. These forces must be understood if we are to avoid to obvious pitfalls, draw successfully on our traditional social and cultural strengths, and design effective models of prevention.

Two Evil Shadows essays
Two Evil Shadows essays Two novels written by outstanding authors, The Scarlet Pimpernel , written by Baroness Emmuska Orczy, and A Tale of Two Cities written by Charles Dickens, are set during the French revolution, and both have something common. The books both contain powerful portrayals of antagonists. Chauvelin is the villain in The Scarlet Pimpernel and Mme Defarge is the villain in A Tale Of Two Cities, and they are both excellent examples of villains. A villain is an evil character, guilty of serious crimes, who acts in opposition to the hero. Every villain is an evil character, and through their own words, relationships with others, and the general description of their character it becomes more apparent. In A Tale of Two Cities Mme Defarge is constantly found sitting in the back of her their store knitting a register of names that she believes will be the list of people that will be sentenced to the guillotine for the revolutionary cause. This shows that she is a quiet villain and keeps to herself until she attacks. Mme Defarge lashes out when she tries to confront Lucie and arrest her, but finds Miss Pross instead, and Mme Defarge is armed with a gun. She tries to have Lucie and her daughter executed because Lucie and her daughter are connected Darnay who is an Evrmonde, and Mme Defarge is the surviving sibling of the man and woman killed by the Evrmondes. Mme Defarge also turns on Lucie before she tries to have them executed. Lucie was unaware that Mme Defarge was plotting against her and was not expecting her to act that way towards her. In The Scarlet Pimpernel Chauvelin prefers to tell his men and superior, Robespierre, what he plans to do. Chauvelin is one of Robespierres underlings. After Sir Percival Blakney forms the secret society, The League of the Scarlet Pimpernel in order to save aristocrats from the guillotine, Robespierre orders Chauvelin to apprehend the Pimpernel, Sir Percival Blakney. Chauvelin was...

Literature reveiw for my dissertation. (how relationship marketing can Essay
Literature reveiw for my dissertation. (how relationship marketing can boost company images in the car industry with specific emphasis on the issue of trust.) - Essay Example The findings of this research will provide insight of the car industry that started as early as 1769. At that time having a car was something that was left for the rich thus the marketing strategies were not taken very seriously by those who were producing cars. This is because the industry was not ventured into by so many people thus competition was very low. The automobile industry started with steam cars, coal gas cars to recently where cars are using unleaded fuel. The car industry has continued to expand as very many companies have ventured in this business to meet the demand of cars world wide. Today, cars are not considered as a luxury but as a necessity. For this reason, car industries have seen the need of employing marketing strategies to ensure that their cars sell. In trying to attract customers, car industries keep coming up with new models of cars every time. There has been a consideration of all kinds of people in coming up with better and easy to handle cars. For inst ance, the automatic cars are made for the disabled people. Moreover, they can be used by any one who does not know how to drive because they are easy to understand and handle. Car industries have seen the importance of having strategic marketing plans thus the knowledge of what is going around in this industry. That is, what are the needs of their customers and what are their competitors doing to win very many clients. With such knowledge, this industry has seen the need of carrying out the SWOT analysis that helps the different car firms to know how they are going to differentiate their products and services from their competitors. This enables them to find out ways in which they are going to build customer trust as they carry out research, analyses it and then come up with new and better strategies of keeping their customers. Such research focuses mostly on what the customer needs and not the company (Ledgerwood, 2006, pp. 95-100). It is the quality of the car that matters and not the quantity and how cheap it is. Car industries are now bound to making cars that can last longer and are safe. Customers need to be assured that their vehicles will not breakdown after ten days of buying them. Once a customer buys a vehicle, they always want to know how long it can last on the road. Trust will be built if the car industry tells the truth. Customers become very disappointed when they are assured that a car will last for five to eight years then it only serves them for two years. If such a thing happens, then that brand is surely going to lose market (Ennew, 2006, pp. 94-100). Safety is another issue; customers need to be assured that the vehicles they are buying have the best safety products like safety belts and air bags. With the number of car accidents increasing world wide, safety has become a first priority when purchasing cars.

Triple entry accounting and financial statements Assignment
Triple entry accounting and financial statements - Assignment Example Today many companies often use statements from previous periods or years in order to project the likely outcomes of current finances. This method is not always accurate. Triple-entry accounting is intended to provide predictive accounting that is more accurate than basing results solely on previous outcomes.(Henke)The process of triple-entry accounting is a complex process. It is believed that these methods may be able to predict the future of the business and, even allow, for unforeseen expenditures and happenings. The intention of the triple-entry accounting is to give businesses a clearer view of financial earnings based on an equation that takes into consideration the past, present and future; not just historical data.(Henke)This could be considered a great improvement over current financial statement methodology. Essentially the articulation of the four relevant financial statements simply means that the numbers in the statements among all the statements provided are in agreement with one another. However, there is a lot that goes along with that simple definition The four statements that need to articulate properly are the balance sheet, income statement, Statement of Stockholder Equity, and the Statement of Cash Flow. The balance sheet, is divided into three sections: assets, liabilities, and stockholdersââ¬â¢ equity, provides the information concerning the available resources the resources to management and any claims against those resources by present creditors and shareholders. ("Cambridge Publications") All the gains and losses are recorded and then transferred to the income sheet as necessary. The Stockholders Equity reflects the all of the financing provided by the companyââ¬â¢s owners. The stockholders hold a claim on residual interest which is accrued via, common stock, prefe rred stock, treasury stock, retained earnings, additional paid capital, any other accumulated income or loss. the statement of cash flows provides

Significance Of Admission To Adult Acute Psychiatric Wards Dissertation
Significance Of Admission To Adult Acute Psychiatric Wards - Dissertation Example In general, the admission of patients within the acute psychiatric ward can strongly influence the prescription of Benzodiazepines and Z-hypnotics; including its long-term use. To protect the health and socio-economic welfare of people from the adverse health consequences of the wrong use of both Benzodiazepines and Z-hypnotics, it is necessary to increase the existing knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals when prescribing and/or administrating these two (2) particular psychotic drugs. In relation to the misuse or wrong prescription of Benzodiazepines and Z-hypnotics within the acute psychiatric ward, this study will seek to identify the danger of prescribing both Benzodiazepines and Z-hypnotics during the pre-admission, admission, and post-admission process across the Acute Psychiatric Hospitals and among the general practitioners (GPs). The main research question is ââ¬Å"Is Benzodiazepine and Z-hypnotic prescribing influenced by admission to acute psychiatric wards?â⬠The following sub-research questions will be used as a guide throughout the completion of the literature review: As a general rule, both Benzodiazepine and Z-hypnotics should be used in small quantities for a time period of 5 days to 4 weeks (NHS West Essex, 2012, p. 4). However, there are cases wherein these drugs are being prescribed to the patients for long-term use. Because of the adverse health consequences of misusing both Benzodiazepines and Z-hypnotics, a lot of patients can be admitted or re-admitted to psychiatric wards.

Business Impact Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Business Impact Analysis - Essay Example In this scenario, BIA is based on a critical assumption and that is every area and task of a company depends on the continuous working of every other task; however some tasks are more critical and important than others as well as need a greater investment following a failure. In addition, the BIA also determines the expenditures associated with losses, for instance substitution of equipment or machinery, loss of cash flow, loss of income, funds paid to pull alongside a backlog of work, and so on. Moreover, a BIA report also determines the significance of business tasks and processes as well as recommends suitable financial support for actions to look after them. In this scenario, BIA determines the possibilities of breakdowns or losses in terms of their influence on business revenue, safety and security, marketing and advertising, compliance, legal aspects and quality assurance. Hence, BIA can be considered as the backbone of the whole business continuity plan or, as a minimum, it sh ould be managed and controlled in the approved manner. In fact, a well-planned and well-executed BIA can formulate the differentiation between a strong, completely developed business continuity plan, and an ordinary one. Methods for Establishing Component Priorities A company can prioritize its functions and components on the basis of their criticality. In this scenario, critical applications and systems are used in the processing of sensitive information. In addition, the applications and systems that an organization uses to process sensitive information can be prioritized as: Critical: Critical business applications and systems are believed to be the highest priority functions for the reason that they have highest impact on an organizationââ¬â¢s potential and processes for recovery.... sensitive information can be prioritized as: Critical: Critical business applications and systems are believed to be the highest priority functions for the reason that they have highest impact on an organizationââ¬â¢s potential and processes for recovery. Additionally, human resources of an organization are fully aware of these critical processes within their department. In addition, the solution is to collect all necessary information and build up a complete look at their critical applications and process from the companyââ¬â¢s point of view. For instance, they should determine that what applications and processes must be present for their organization to run a business? Hence, these processes must be recovered to sustain as close to regular operation as possible. In this scenario, the highest permissible time limit is determined in hours (Pabrai, 2013; ttgtMedia, 2007). Essential: Every organization has some functions which lie between critical and important, hence for these business functions organizations can decide to make use of a central kind that can be acknowledged as ââ¬Å"vitalâ⬠or ââ¬Å"essential.â⬠Though, it is difficult to distinguish between critical and vital functions but an organization can choose that certain processes are completely critical and others are very significant and they should be handled soon after the critical processes. In this scenario, vital business processes can comprise several business aspects such as payroll, which is not a critical business function in terms of being capable of getting the business support and operating right away however these functions can be significant to the organizationââ¬â¢s capability to work further than the disaster recovery phase. These business processes should be recovered immediately when resources

Factors in Planning Health Interventions
Factors in Planning Health Interventions Identify, assess and discuss both direct and indirect impacts on health the following determinants have with regards to planning, implementation, and the evaluation of health interventions. Determinant factors Demographic distribution of populations Political values Religious beliefs Human values Ethnicity Traditions Numerous aspects unite collectedly in order to influence the wellbeing of a person and the society. There are factors that cosiderably affect the individuals by the conditions and the environment whether the individuals are healthy or not. These factors are the environment that we live in, our status in life, literacy, and our associations to the people that sorrounds us ( World Health Organization WHO, 2014). Determinants Factors a. Demographic distribution of populations Distribution of population is the number of people living in one place. Demography is focused on the analysis of the population size and structure, specifically in connection to its determinants, fertility, mortality and immigration. Demography has a lot of major issues in its root like global population growth, the challenges of population and the effect of different issues faced by the environment. This could also be rooted in their knowledge about the effect of their actions. Some places arenââ¬â¢t learned enough on the consequences they need to face in doing something. If the population size is big, lesser focus on each family will be given and any help wouldnââ¬â¢t be lend to them, which might result to poverty and hunger that will soon become an illness. The major reason for population changes, whether in an individual country or for the whole world, is the change in birth and death rates. Thebirth rateis the number of live babies born in a year for every 1000 people in t he total population.Death ratesare number of people dying per 1000 people. When birth rates are higher than death rates the population of an area will increase (InternetGeogrphy, 2014). b. Political value Political values are one of the determinants of health. Somehow, it can affect oneââ¬â¢s health through their perspective. How they perceive the political values that are instilled to them could be one factor. It depends on the mind setting of the person, if they rely so much on the politicsââ¬â¢ promises to create their lives (Levine, 2012). If they think the government can support their needs, which, in reality, is very rare, then their health might be at risk. One must understand the politicsââ¬â¢ issue and how it runs in their country. And this belief may result to poverty/hunger, which later will cause illness to the people. Stress may be considered as one of the indirect impact of political values, stress is considered as one of the major causes of different illness recognized and some political values that are not met and was discouraged may lead into giving stress to people. c. Religious beliefs Religious belief doesnââ¬â¢t have that direct impact on their health but indirectly with the belief they stand in for their religion, it may become a determinant of their health. With respect to each all religions, each of it has their own belief and perspective in all aspects. Having a religious belief may have both positive and negatives impacts on health and morbidity. Some religion might consider one thing a bad habit while the other doesnââ¬â¢t even mind it. There are few who have cited several possible reasons basically related with lesser stress levels in a religious community. It has been found that going to church increases life expectancy (Hummer, Roger, Ellison, 1999) with a life expectancy at 20-83 years for often-regular attendees and 75 years for non-attendees. The result however does not necessarily mean that you can rely your life expectancy by the number of visits you have on churches thus it will help you with your health issue with consideration on the belie f they stand. People having strong faith were found to have lesser suicidal characters than those atheists. Another factor for this is the food that each religion is allowed to eat. There are foods that is not allowed in some religion which lead them into a healthier living and other religions which has no restrictions that leads to neglecting the right food to eat and eventually may cause illness. d. Human values Human values just like political values have an impact in peopleââ¬â¢s health. It is more of their disposition towards themselves. How they value and believe in something that might happen in them. This is more on their self-concept and the importance they give in themselves. Human values also consider factors like eating the right food for a long lasting living and eating or practicing whatever they have been used to without even considering their health. Also it can be rooted on what they have been used to since then, this will be the result of their health. There are different kinds of people who does not believe in taking a lot of care of them and might as well believe in destiny, which refutes the belief of having good health for a long lasting life, this may be considered as the indirect impact of human values. e. Ethnicity Ethnicity is one of the influential socio cultural factor that affects nutritional and health status. It has a vital part in determining culinary practices. The idea of ethnicity is the personââ¬â¢s culturally used practices that comes from its pith place which means, what has been practiced since they were born. Discoveries say that acculturation tends to show relevant differences in personââ¬â¢s health and dietary practices once they become acculturated to their culture (Wikipedia, 2014). This has something to do with how they deal with others who are within their ethnic group. It is what the people in the place they live in that has an effect of what they practice. This is one of the determinants of the health of people, their ethnicity that brings them to what are practicing until now because they have been used to. The state of their health might have something to relate with in their bloodline. f. Traditions Tradition refers to oneââ¬â¢s belief that is being passed by their elders. It is their practices that has significance in the past and is still acknowledged until now. This has a great impact on oneââ¬â¢s health. It is more on what practices or intake they have been used to since they were young and relatively, it may have an effect on their health later on. It is the summation of their cultural experiences is what somehow defines their health. With the continuous practices of these, surely it will have an impact on oneââ¬â¢s health. This is with regard to their values of their elders, how they respect their culture. Indirectly, it has in impact on their health in a way that it defines their health in the present time. Extinct Animals Research: Woolly Mammoth :: essays research papers fc
Extinct Animals Research: Woolly Mammoth à à à à à We have learned much about the Woolly Mammoth almost more than any other dinosaur that has been identified. Due to the fact that the Woolly Mammoth so closely resembles today's elephants, care for them would most probably require most of the same factors to keep it alive. Since the Woolly Mammoth has been extinct for 4000 years, it is difficult to tell exactly what they lived on, but we can hypothesize. à à à à à The Woolly Mammoth lived during the Ice Age, so if alive today, it must be kept in a tundra environment. For food, only basic tundra vegetation is necessary. Due to the thick pelt that the Woolly Mammoth has, any known Ice Age temperatures would suffice since the thick fur protects the animal in any extreme temperatures. à à à à à Large enclosures would not be needed as they would be for a normal elephant since the Woolly Mammoth is only three meters high. The huge tusks would allow it to scavenge for its own food, so no special feedings would be necessary. Feedings would also be needed on a less frequent basis since the Woolly Mammoth, much like today's camels, keeps under its sloping back a thick layer of blubber as nutrition when food was not needed. à à à à à The problem in keeping a creature such as the Woolly Mammoth in a zoo- like surrounding would be poachers. Due to the endangerment of such a magnificent species, poachers of pelts and ivory would most certainly be after it's huge tusks and thick furs, so it would be necessary to post guards around it's cage at all times. à à à à à A large-scale habitat would be constructed for this creature since, during the period it lived, the Pleistocene, there were no restrictions on the places it could roam to. There was nothing stopping this beast from stomping along to wherever it wanted to go. A Woolly Mammoth might find it peculiar to be stuck in a twenty foot ice field with no predators or other animals whatsoever.

Swot Analysis to Six Sigma
In 1981 Motorola launched an initiative calling for a 5-year, 10X improvement in quality. In 1987 Motorola initiated its ââ¬Å"Six Sigma Qualityâ⬠initiative, with the goal of no more than 3. 4 defective parts per million (ppm) across the company. A 4-year 100X quality improvement goal was set. In 1988, Motorola won the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Motorola then shared its ââ¬Å"Six Sigmaâ⬠approach with other companies. In 1989, Motorola Chairman, Bob Galvin asked Mikel Harry to head the Six Sigma Research Institute, an organization that received funding from a number of Fortune 500 companies . In 1993 Mikel Harry left Motorola and went to Asea Brown Boveria Ltd. (ABB). Here, the strategy changed from ââ¬Å"Quality Firstâ⬠to ââ¬Å"Business First. â⬠AlliedSignal implemented Six Sigma in 1994 and claimed savings of $1. 2 billion by 1998. Bossidy, CEO of AlliedSignal, convinced General Electricââ¬â¢s Jack Welch to try Six Sigma. The huge savings due to using Six Sigma were claimed in the GE Annual Report, Letter to Our Shareholders, February 12, 1999. With successes like these and strong business leaders like Jack Welsh and Bossidy, the demand for Six Sigma has exploded. Many Fortune 500 companies have begun Six Sigma initiatives and others have asked if Six Sigma is right for them. Numerous consulting firms have jumped on the bandwagon, including ASQ, and numerous articles and books have appeared on the subject. Many product and service advertisements are now mentioning Six Sigma. The term Six Sigma defines an optimum measurement of quality: 3. 4 defects per million events. The Greek letter SIGMA is a mathematical term that simply represents a measure of variation, the distribution or spread around the mean or average of any process or procedure in manufacturing, engineering, services or transactions. The sigma value, or standard deviation, indicates how well any process is performing. The higher the value, the fewer defects per million opportunities. One of Motorola's most significant contributions was to change the discussion of quality from one where quality levels were measured in percentages (parts per hundred) to a discussion of parts per million or even parts per billion. Motorola correctly pointed out that modern technology was so complex that old ideas about acceptable quality levels were no longer acceptable. One puzzling aspect of the ââ¬Å"officialâ⬠Six Sigma literature is that it states that a process operating at Six Sigma levels will produce 3. 4 parts-per-million nonconformances. However, if a normal distribution table is consulted (very few go out to six sigma), one finds that the expected nonconformances are 0. 002 parts per million (two parts per billion). The difference occurs because Motorola presumes that the process mean can drift 1. 5 sigma in either direction. The area of a normal distribution beyond 4. 5 sigma from the mean is indeed 3. 4 parts per million. Because control charts will easily detect any process shift of this magnitude in a single sample, the 3. 4 parts per million represents a very conservative upper bound on the nonconformance rate. Life Changing Essays
Life Changing Essays Life Changing Essay Life Changing Essay Six years ago an event took place in my life that I will never forget. It was a life changing event, something that I would never wish on anyone. I had my children taken away from me due to my ex-husband abusing me. I had Just had my third little girl and thought that maybe this time things would get better. After each baby I secretly wished this. And for the first week or two things seemed to get better, but It always went back to the same old thing. He was always yelling for the smallest thing. Dinner just so, I do enough laundry, or the house cleaned the right way. He would come in from working or hanging out tit friends, which he did more than work, and be on a rampage. I could tell within the first few seconds of him walking in how the night would be. I would try to always have a smile on my face and greet him so nicely hoping that would make things different that day. But it never did. I would try and hurry through dinner and baths with the kids so that I could put them in bed before things got too bad. I always tried to hide the fact that their father could be such a monster. They heard it all and sometimes saw him slap me across the face or push me against the wall with his face Inches from mine, daring me to say anything. I would sometimes have enough and run to the phone, but he would always grab It and rip It from the wall. I finally had enough and went to vaults my mom one day. That was the beginning to the worst event in my life. When I arrived at my I had a busted lip and a knot on my head. My mom had me fill her in on everything that had been going on. When I was done telling her she was furious! She told my stepfather everything and he wanted to know why I was still living with him. I explained to him that I Just had another baby and could not figure out how I would manage taking of three children by myself financially. Where would we live? Where would I work? What would I drive? Those were the reasons that I continued to stay there. If I could figure a way out then I would be out, but it that easy. My parents thought they had a plan that was going to help us get out of this situation, however it work out. My stepfather made a call to the abuse hotlist and reported that my husband was abusing me In front of my children. He told them he was worried about us and wanted us to get help. They told him that someone would investigate the situation. I did not know at the time he had made this phone call. I went home hat night and the next morning I was awaken by someone knocking on the door. When I got to the door there was a Deputy and a Case Worker from the Department of Children and Families. They asked me to step outside and talk to them in private. I knew that my husband would be listening to everything that was going on, so I tried to keep my composure and act like nothing was wrong. They told me that a call came into the abuse line, but did not say who called it in. They asked me if there was any violence going on and I had to deny it because I knew he would be listening. I told them that I know what the call was all about. They then asked to speak to my oldest daughter and right then I started getting upset. I was crying and asking them not to take my children. They said they were not taking them they Just needed to ask her a few questions. So I took her outside and they asked me to go back inside, A Tee umlauts later teen toll me Tanat I anemia to get ten Kilos ready Ana go stay with my mom for a couple of days, for a cool down period they said. So I agreed and went in to get myself and the girls ready to go. The whole time the Deputy and Case Worker stayed outside waiting. When I went out and got in the car o go they stayed and talked to my husband. By the time I got to my there was a message for me to call the office. So I called and they said that when we left my husband was arrested for domestic violence. My daughter told them about everything that had been going on and then when they questioned him they knew he was lying. They said that I could return home whenever I was ready. He would not be allowed back there when he was released from Jail. I returned home the next day to try and figure out where to go from here. My husband was released a few days later and against the courts orders came to the house. I got the same threats as always that I needed to do what he told me or else. About three weeks later the Case Worker came back to my house, this time alone. He said he needed to take pictures of the children for the file. My two younger daughters were at my mother in laws house at the time, so he asked me to go get them and then come back. I knew right then that something right. I asked him if he was going to take my kids, but he said no he Just needed pictures. He said that I could leave my oldest daughter there if I wanted, which I refused. So I put my daughter in the car and left to go get the other two. As soon as I was turning off f my street I saw two cars pull into my drive way. My worst fears were confirmed then and there, they were there to take my babies. I cried the whole way to my mother in laws and when I got there told her what was going on. She said she doubted that was what was going on, but why would the be there for him to take some pictures. I loaded the kids in the car and drove back to my house. The rest of the day was a blur. I remember them meeting me at the car to tell me they were removing my children from me. I started screaming and crying, asking them to please give me another chance. I told them I would do whatever they aid if they would Just leave my babies. They said they could not do that, my children were being emotionally abused. They then asked me if any of my family members would be willing to take them. I called my mom and she said that she would take them. I went inside and packed them some things to take with them and they let me say my goodbyes and then they were gone. I know what to do. I was lost. My neighbors came oft and tried to console me, but it make a difference. I was contacted the next day to tell me when my first court appearance was. At that appearance they set up visitation for me to see my children once a week. Over the course of almost three years I took numerous classes and had to follow the Case Plan the court assigned me. This was their way of having me prove how bad I wanted my children back. I took Parenting Classes and Batterers Prevention Classes. I went to court periodically and always had someone checking on me to make sure I was doing things right. My husband was set up with the same Case Plan, but it was not important enough for him to complete it. So I got a Job, a car, a place to live for me and my children, and finished my Case Plan. All the things I thought I could never do. After all of that was complete I was notified by my Case Worker that they were going to ask the Judge to grant me custody. A couple of weeks later I got ten call at work Tanat ten Judge Ana aware my sole custody AT my girls. IT the office been full of clients I would have done cartwheels though it! I was so happy I had to go, I continue my work day, and my employer understood. That evening when I went to pick up my girls was the happiest day of my life! Even though this was such a life changing event I am grateful that my parents were looking out for us. If this have happened I might not be here today to write this paper. Or something may have happened to one of my kids. I have learned a lot through all of this experience. I have learned that I am a strong woman that does not need to depend on anyone. I am a terrific mother that will never put my kids through that again. And I will never, ever let another man treat me the way he did. I have had my little girls back for three years now and have enjoyed every minute of it. I have not seen my ex husband for almost five years now and hope that I never have to see him again. Even though I am sad that the girls are missing out on having their father around, I am glad that they have me here able to love them, laugh with them, and care for them.
